fun in the kitchen

The kitchen has been an endless source of entertainment for Charlotte lately, especially the cabinet with the baking supplies. She loves any kind of plastic bottles, too.
Breakfast has never been Charlotte’s favorite meal. She usually eats a total of ten or so Cheerios after throwing half of them on the ground or moving them around the counter for awhile.

Luckily she’s eating well during the rest of the day and likes her newest high chair. Last weekend we discovered she is allergic to sesame, which is very sad for a vegetarian baby–no hummus!
Charlotte has a new toy–this little red wagon that she can push around. She hasn’t figured out how to turn it around yet, though.
Here are some action shots of Charlotte trying to escape from her little counter seat. The first time she did it, a few weeks ago, she started crawling across the counter before I even had time to grab her. Even with the straps tight, she is able to stand up. She seems to be doing a little better staying put in it to eat this week. We went back to the high chair for a few days, but she really hates being in that. The key seems to be having her really hungry when we put her in the seat, and she seems to stand up mostly when she’s done eating now.
We also think she might have been eating badly because she was teething. We can definitely see two and maybe three teeth coming through on top, and she is eating well again.
We went to Chicago and Indianapolis for a long weekend to go to my friend Shalon’s baby shower and visit Brian’s mom and extended family in Indy. It was a busy weekend with lots of time in the car, and Charlotte visited two zoos! We took a lot of pictures at the Indianapolis Zoo.
The giraffes, monkeys and chickens were big hits. Charlotte was a little apprehensive about the rhinos, though.
Checking out the monkeys:
We took Charlotte for a hike today in the baby hiking backpack, which we hadn’t used before. Charlotte had this concerned look on her face for most of the way. It was a pretty short hike, and it was another gorgeous fall day.
We stopped for a snack break. Charlotte has been enjoying gnawing on apple cores lately.
Yesterday we took the ferry to Georges Island, out in Boston Harbor, with my parents. It was a nice sunny fall day. The ferry ride is about half an hour and there are some great views of Boston from the boat. There’s a fort out on the island which we explored a little, and we hung out on the grass too. Charlotte had fun crawling around and also looking at Papa’s kite up in the air.
